Aluminum Alloy 1100

An Aluminum Alloy is a composition consisting mainly of aluminum to which other elements have been added, including iron, copper, magnesium, silicon, and zinc. The addition of elements to the aluminum gives the alloy improved strength, workability, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and/or density, compared with the pure metallic element.

The alloys are classified and named according to the amount and type of the alloying metals . Given widespread applications across industries, selecting the right aluminum alloy type for a specific end-use is crucial. Just slight differences in chemical properties can drastically alter strength, workability, corrosion resistance, and electrical conductivity of the alloy.

Aluminum Alloy 1100  With a purity of 99.0%  and is often called commercially pure aluminum. It is the softest of the common alloys.

Aluminum Alloy 1100 is non-heat treatable, extremely malleable and shows excellent corrosive resistance. Though 1100 aluminum has great weldability, it also has a rather narrow melting range to consider. It  has good machinability when hard tempered.

Aluminum Alloy  1100is chiefly used in the following areas:

  • Cladding and roofing: Aluminum 1100’s excellent corrosion resistance makes it a popular choice for cladding and roofing in buildings and structures.
  • Heat exchangers: Aluminum 1100’s high thermal conductivity makes it ideal for use in heat exchangers and other heat transfer applications.
  • Chemical equipment: The alloy’s resistance to chemical corrosion makes it suitable for use in chemical processing equipment.
  • Reflectors and lighting fixtures: Aluminum 1100’s high reflectivity makes it useful for reflectors and lighting fixtures.
  • Food and beverage packaging: The alloy’s low toxicity and good formability make it an excellent choice for food and beverage packaging.
  • Electrical conductors: Although not as conductive as copper, aluminum is still widely used as an electrical conductor due to its low density and good formability.
  • General fabrication: Aluminum 1100’s good formability, ductility, and low weight make it a popular choice for a variety of general fabrication applications.
