Aluminum Alloy 3004
An Aluminum Alloy is a composition consisting mainly of aluminum to which other elements have been added, including iron, copper, magnesium, silicon, and zinc. The addition of elements to the aluminum gives the alloy improved strength, workability, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and/or density, compared with the pure metallic element.
The alloys are classified and named according to the amount and type of the alloying metals . Aluminum Alloy 3004 is a medium strength aluminum alloy with manganese and magnesium as its primary alloying elements. It has higher strength than 3003 alloy due to a 1% addition of magnesium , but lower ductility.
- As with all 3000 aluminum alloy series, 3004 aluminum is non-heat treatable.
- Just a slight addition of magnesium gives 3004 strength approaching that of 5052 aluminum.

The addition of Mn increases strength by 10-20% compared to the 1000 Series alloys, and they also have excellent deep drawability. For this reason, they are widely used in the fields of vessels, construction materials, containers, and offset printing plates. Meanwhile in Storage tanks, pressure valves, and cookware are all appropriate end-uses for 3004 alloy .
