Infrared‑Reflective Powder Coating

Infrared-Reflective Powder Coating is a functional powder coating material designed to reduce the absorption of solar infrared radiation and help lower the surface temperature of coated metal and other suitable substrates. It is also commercially described as solar-reflective powder coating, heat-reflective powder coating, IR-reflective coating, cool coating powder, solar heat-reflective coating, or infrared reflective coating powder. The formulation generally consists of a thermosetting powder coating resin system, selected pigments, infrared-reflective pigments or functional fillers, curing agents, additives, and other performance-enhancing components. Depending on the required application and color, the formulation may be based on polyester, super-durable polyester, epoxy-polyester hybrid, or other powder coating technologies. Specialized infrared-reflective pigments are selected to reflect a significant portion of near-infrared solar energy while maintaining the required color, opacity, adhesion, weather resistance, and surface appearance. Unlike conventional dark coatings that can absorb considerable solar radiation, infrared-reflective powder coatings are engineered to provide improved solar reflectance and thermal management while retaining the advantages of dry powder coating technology. The product can be supplied in different colors, gloss levels, particle-size distributions, and performance grades according to the requirements of the end application and coating system.

Infrared-Reflective Powder Coating is suitable for industrial and architectural applications where reducing solar heat gain, protecting coated surfaces, and improving thermal performance are important considerations. Typical applications include metal roofs, roofing panels, wall cladding, aluminum profiles, steel structures, outdoor equipment, HVAC components, enclosures, electrical cabinets, agricultural structures, industrial machinery, transportation components, and other exposed metal surfaces. The coating can be applied using conventional electrostatic powder coating equipment and is normally cured by controlled heating to form a continuous, durable film. Depending on the resin system and formulation, available grades can provide good adhesion, hardness, abrasion resistance, corrosion protection, UV resistance, weatherability, and color retention. One of the principal advantages of infrared-reflective powder coating is its ability to combine decorative surface finishing with solar-energy management, potentially reducing heat buildup on exposed surfaces and supporting energy-efficient building and industrial designs. The coating is also solvent-free in its supplied powder form, produces little or no VOC emissions during normal application compared with conventional solvent-borne coatings, and allows efficient overspray recovery when appropriate powder coating equipment is used.

For wholesale export, Infrared-Reflective Powder Coating can be manufactured according to the required resin chemistry, color, gloss, curing temperature, film thickness, solar reflectance, infrared reflectance, durability, and substrate requirements. Commercial grades may be developed for standard industrial durability or enhanced exterior performance where prolonged exposure to sunlight, moisture, temperature changes, and weathering is expected. Performance should be evaluated according to applicable coating and powder-coating standards, with commonly referenced standards including ISO 8130 for powder coating testing, ISO 2813 for gloss measurement, ISO 2409 for adhesion testing, ISO 1519 for flexibility, ISO 6272 for impact resistance, ISO 9227 for salt-spray testing where corrosion performance is required, and ASTM methods applicable to solar reflectance and thermal properties. Exact performance depends on the formulation, pigment technology, substrate preparation, application conditions, and curing cycle.
