Turbine Oil

Turbine Oil is a specially formulated industrial lubricant designed to provide reliable lubrication, cooling, corrosion protection, and oxidation resistance in steam turbines, gas turbines, hydraulic turbines, and other high-speed rotating equipment. It is generally manufactured from highly refined mineral base oils or selected synthetic base stocks combined with carefully balanced additive systems that improve oxidation stability, rust and corrosion protection, demulsification, foam control, and air-release performance. During production, the base oil is refined and purified, blended with performance additives under controlled temperature and mixing conditions, then filtered and tested to ensure consistent viscosity, cleanliness, thermal stability, and long service performance. High-quality turbine oil is particularly important in continuous-duty power generation and industrial plants where lubricant degradation can lead to deposits, bearing wear, corrosion, equipment downtime, and costly maintenance.

Turbine Oils are available in several viscosity grades and formulation types to meet different turbine designs, operating temperatures, loads, and lubrication systems. Common mineral-based turbine oils are widely used in conventional steam turbines, hydro turbines, compressors, pumps, and general circulating lubrication systems, while higher-performance formulations may be selected for demanding gas turbines and applications requiring enhanced oxidation stability and thermal resistance. Typical grades include ISO VG 32, ISO VG 46, ISO VG 68, and other viscosity grades specified by the equipment manufacturer, with the appropriate grade selected according to operating temperature, bearing clearance, circulation system design, and OEM requirements. Depending on the formulation, turbine oil can offer excellent resistance to oxidation and sludge formation, rapid separation of water, good rust protection, low foaming tendency, strong air-release characteristics, and stable viscosity during extended operation, helping maintain efficient heat transfer and smooth movement of bearings, gears, shafts, and other rotating components.

Turbine oil is used extensively in electricity generation, petrochemical plants, refineries, steel mills, manufacturing facilities, hydroelectric stations, and other industries operating high-speed rotating machinery. Its applications include steam turbine lubrication, gas turbine lubrication, hydro turbine systems, turbo-generators, circulating oil systems, turbine bearings, reduction gears where permitted by the equipment manufacturer, and auxiliary machinery.

FAQ Turbine Oil

Turbine Oil is primarily used for lubricating and cooling bearings and other moving components in steam turbines, gas turbines, hydro turbines, turbo-generators, and industrial circulating lubrication systems while providing oxidation, rust, corrosion, and foam control.
The appropriate viscosity grade depends on the turbine design, operating temperature, bearing requirements, circulation system, and equipment manufacturer's recommendations, with ISO VG 32, 46, and 68 being common commercial grades.
High-quality Turbine Oil provides excellent oxidation stability, effective rust and corrosion protection, good water separation, low foaming, controlled air release, stable viscosity, and reliable lubrication during continuous industrial operation.
Yes, specific turbine oil formulations are available for steam and gas turbine applications, but the formulation and performance requirements should always be checked against the turbine manufacturer's specifications before use.
Turbine Oil is commonly supplied in pails, drums, IBC containers, or bulk tankers and should be stored in clean, sealed containers away from moisture, dust, direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures to prevent contamination and product degradation.
You can find suitable Iranian manufacturers and exporters of Turbine Oil through Irancorps, which connects international buyers with evaluated Iranian manufacturers and suppliers and can help facilitate sourcing according to required grade, specification, packaging, and quantity.
