Magnetite

Magnetite is a naturally occurring iron oxide mineral with the chemical formula Fe₃O₄ and is one of the most important commercial sources of iron for the iron and steel industry. Due to its high iron content, strong magnetic properties, relatively high density, and suitability for efficient beneficiation, magnetite is widely traded as iron ore concentrate, magnetite ore, and magnetite powder for industrial applications. Commercial magnetite is generally obtained from iron ore deposits and processed through crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, screening, and concentration to remove unwanted gangue minerals and increase Fe content. Depending on the deposit and processing route, the final product can be supplied in different particle sizes and grades according to the requirements of steel mills, foundries, mineral processors, and other industrial users. High-quality magnetite concentrate is particularly valued for producing iron ore pellets because its fine particle size and high iron concentration support efficient pelletizing and subsequent reduction processes.

In the iron and steel sector, magnetite concentrate is primarily used as a feedstock for pellet production and direct reduction processes, where consistent chemical composition and controlled particle size are important for stable furnace operation and high-quality iron production. Magnetite ore can also be upgraded through beneficiation to produce concentrates with improved iron recovery and reduced levels of silica, alumina, sulfur, phosphorus, and other impurities. Commercially available types include run-of-mine magnetite ore, crushed magnetite, magnetite concentrate, fine magnetite powder, and specially processed magnetite products, with each form serving different industrial requirements. Coarser magnetite ore is commonly supplied for further crushing and beneficiation, while concentrated and finely ground grades are more suitable for pelletizing, dense-media separation, coal washing, and selected specialty applications. Its magnetic response also makes magnetite particularly suitable for magnetic separation systems used in mineral processing and recycling operations.

Magnetite offers several advantages for industrial buyers, including high iron content, strong magnetic susceptibility, good density, efficient beneficiation characteristics, and suitability for large-scale ironmaking applications. Product specifications can be adjusted according to the intended application, with key parameters typically including total Fe content, Fe₃O₄ content, SiO₂, Al₂O₃, sulfur, phosphorus, moisture, and particle-size distribution. Consistent quality and reliable preparation are especially important when magnetite is supplied to steel producers and pellet plants because variations in chemistry or moisture can affect processing efficiency and final product performance.

FAQ Magnetite

Magnetite is mined from iron ore deposits and commonly processed through crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, screening, and concentration to produce a commercial-grade product with the required iron content and particle size.
Magnetite is mainly used as an iron ore feedstock for steelmaking and iron ore pellet production, while other applications include direct reduction feed, dense-media separation, coal washing, mineral processing, and magnetic separation.
Common commercial forms include run-of-mine magnetite ore, crushed magnetite ore, magnetite concentrate, fine magnetite powder, and customized grades prepared according to particle-size and chemical-composition requirements.
Buyers generally evaluate total Fe, Fe₃O₄, silica, alumina, phosphorus, sulfur, moisture, particle-size distribution, and consistency between shipments, with the appropriate limits depending on the intended industrial application.
Buyers can contact Irancorps to identify and communicate with suitable Iranian manufacturers, mining companies, processors, and exporters of magnetite according to required specifications, quantity, packaging, and destination market.
Magnetite can be shipped as bulk cargo, in bulk bags, or in other industrial packaging depending on particle size, order volume, handling requirements, transportation method, and buyer specifications.
