Gypsum

Gypsum is a naturally occurring mineral composed primarily of calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO₄·2H₂O) and is widely used as an important raw material in the construction, cement, agriculture and industrial sectors. Commercial gypsum is valued for its relatively soft structure, controlled setting characteristics, good fire resistance and ability to be processed into different grades according to end-use requirements. Natural gypsum is generally extracted from sedimentary mineral deposits through open-pit or underground mining, after which the raw material is crushed, screened and processed to remove unwanted impurities and achieve the required particle size. Depending on the intended application, gypsum may be used in its natural form, ground into fine powder or subjected to controlled calcination to produce plaster of Paris or other calcium sulfate-based products. The calcination process removes part of the chemically bound water and converts gypsum into calcium sulfate hemihydrate, which can later react with water and set into a hard material. Production parameters such as purity, moisture content, particle size, whiteness and calcination temperature are carefully controlled to obtain consistent commercial quality. Gypsum products are commonly classified according to purity, physical form, particle size and application, allowing buyers to select a suitable grade for construction, cement manufacturing, agriculture or specialized industrial processes.
