Bitumen

Bitumen is a black, viscous, petroleum-based binding material produced from crude oil refining processes. It consists mainly of complex hydrocarbons and is widely used as a durable waterproof and adhesive material in construction and industrial applications. Commercial bitumen is available in different grades such as Penetration Grade Bitumen (30/40, 40/50, 60/70, 80/100), Viscosity Grade Bitumen (VG10, VG20, VG30, VG40), Oxidized Bitumen, Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB), and Bitumen Emulsion depending on the required performance and application.

Bitumen is mainly used in road construction, asphalt pavement production, highway projects, airport runways, roofing systems, waterproofing membranes, pipe coating, and industrial sealing applications. Its excellent adhesion, water resistance, flexibility, chemical stability, and high temperature performance make it one of the most important construction materials worldwide. Different grades are selected according to climate conditions, traffic load, and project requirements; for example, 60/70 penetration grade is one of the most commonly used paving grades, while harder grades are preferred for heavy traffic and hot climates.

High-quality Bitumen offers excellent durability, strong bonding properties, resistance against moisture penetration, and long service life in asphalt mixtures. Industrial suppliers typically provide Bitumen in bulk shipments, steel drums, jumbo bags, or heated tankers according to customer requirements. Iranian Bitumen is widely traded in international markets due to competitive pricing, availability of petroleum resources, and suitability for export markets.

Others products from bitumen that are available:

Bitumen Emulsion: This type of bitumen is just like cutback bitumen, with one highly important difference. Refinery workers reduce the viscosity of bitumen emulsions with water, not petroleum additives. When we apply emulsions on the surface, water evaporates and the mix starts to set. As a result, there is no need to heating the mixture.

Oxidized Bitumen: To make bitumen more resistant to temperature, we can blow air into bitumen and produce oxidized bitumen. Known as blown bitumen, this type of bitumen is ideal for various industrial purposes, including roof insulation, flooring, industrial mastics, pipe coating, and paints.

FAQ Bitumen

Bitumen is a petroleum-derived binding material mainly used in asphalt production, road construction, waterproofing systems, roofing membranes, and industrial coating applications. It provides strong adhesion, durability, and resistance against water and environmental conditions.
The most common commercial grades include Penetration Grade Bitumen such as 30/40, 40/50, 60/70, and 80/100, as well as Viscosity Grade Bitumen such as VG10, VG30, and VG40. Each grade is selected based on climate, traffic conditions, and application requirements.
Bitumen 60/70 is a harder grade commonly used for highways, asphalt roads, and heavy-duty paving projects. Bitumen 80/100 is softer and provides more flexibility, making it suitable for colder climates and applications requiring better crack resistance.
Bitumen offers excellent waterproofing properties, high adhesion, flexibility, chemical resistance, weather resistance, and long-term durability. These characteristics make it an ideal binder for asphalt and protective coatings.
Bitumen can be supplied in new steel drums, jumbo bags, bulk vessels, or heated tankers depending on destination requirements, transportation method, and customer specifications.
