LDPE Cable Grade Granules

LDPE Cable Grade Granules are specially selected low-density polyethylene materials designed for the extrusion of electrical wire and cable insulation and related applications. Their combination of excellent electrical insulation, flexibility, low moisture absorption, chemical resistance, and efficient processing makes them an important material for cable manufacturers. LDPE cable-grade polyethylene is supplied in pellet or granule form and is processed through cable extrusion lines to create a continuous insulating layer around electrical conductors. ASTM D1248 specifically recognizes polyethylene supplied as powder, granules, or pellets for wire and cable extrusion applications.

LDPE Cable Grade Granules can be used for insulation of electrical wires, communication cables, signal cables, control cables, and other applications where the electrical and mechanical requirements are compatible with LDPE. The material can be supplied in natural or specified colors depending on the manufacturer’s formulation and customer requirements. Different grades may also be optimized for high-speed extrusion, electrical performance, flexibility, or specific cable constructions. For cable manufacturers, selecting the correct Melt Flow Rate (MFR) is important because it directly influences processing behavior, extrusion stability, melt strength, and surface quality. The correct MFR should therefore be selected according to the cable extrusion equipment and required insulation design. LDPE is also known for its excellent low-temperature flexibility. Cable-grade polyethylene can maintain useful flexibility at low temperatures, which is particularly valuable for wires and cables exposed to cold environments. Representative commercial cable grades can have brittleness temperatures below −75°C.

The material provides a useful balance between flexibility and mechanical strength while maintaining good electrical insulation characteristics. Typical LDPE wire and cable grades show tensile strength values in the approximate 9–25 MPa range and elongation at break that can reach several hundred percent, depending on the formulation. Key advantages of LDPE Cable Grade Granules include excellent electrical insulation, low dielectric loss, low moisture absorption, high elongation, flexibility, good chemical resistance, low-temperature performance, and reliable extrusion processing.

FAQ LDPE Cable Grade Granules

LDPE Cable Grade Granules are primarily used for producing electrical wire and cable insulation through extrusion. They are selected for their electrical insulation properties, flexibility, low moisture absorption, and processing performance.
Cable-grade LDPE is specifically formulated and controlled for wire and cable extrusion. Compared with general-purpose LDPE, cable grades place greater emphasis on electrical properties, cleanliness, extrusion stability, dielectric performance, and consistent insulation quality. ASTM D1248 contains specific requirements for polyethylene extrusion materials used for wire and cable.
There is no single MFR suitable for every cable. Commercial cable grades can have relatively low MFR values, while other electrical grades may use higher values. The correct MFR depends on the extrusion line, screw design, extrusion speed, conductor size, insulation thickness, and required surface quality. Commercial examples include MFR values such as 0.25, 0.28 and 1.2 g/10 min.
LDPE combines high electrical resistivity, low dielectric constant, low dielectric loss, low water absorption, flexibility, and good dielectric strength. Typical data compiled for LDPE wire/cable materials show dielectric constants around 2.35 and dielectric strength values within a broad range depending on grade and test conditions.
Yes. Certain specialized cable-grade LDPE materials are specifically developed for high-speed extrusion and stable processing. However, the actual achievable extrusion speed depends on the grade, extrusion equipment, conductor geometry, cooling system, melt temperature, die design, and insulation thickness.
International buyers should verify the manufacturer's identity, product grade, technical datasheet, COA, batch information, production date, packaging, and export documentation before purchasing. IRANCORPS can help international buyers source LDPE Cable Grade Granules from suitable Iranian suppliers, compare available grades and specifications, request quotations, and coordinate the sourcing process based on the buyer's technical and commercial requirements.
