Orthophthalic Unsaturated Polyester Resin for GRP Pipes
This polyester resin is engineered for high-strength, corrosion-resistant fiberglass reinforced pipelines used in industrial, municipal, and water-transmission networks. This resin offers good mechanical performance, wet-out efficiency with fiberglass, and controlled gel time not only for filament winding but also for hand-lay-up, and pultrusion processes.
Orthophthalic Unsaturated Resins have strong adhesion to glass fibers and low shrink characteristics, it enables smooth surface finishing and long-term pipe durability under pressure that make the suitable for GRP water pipelines, sewage drainage pipes, chemical transfer lines, cooling water circulation ducts, transmission lines for desalination plants, irrigation pipelines, and industrial wastewater channels. Its resistance to corrosion, moisture, hydrolysis, and mild chemicals makes it suitable for above-ground, underground, and submerged installation.
Formulation typically include orthophthalic UPR base resin, styrene monomer, cobalt accelerator, MEKP initiator, inhibitors for storage stability, wet-out enhancers, thixotropic modifiers, low-shrink additives, anti-corrosion boosters, and UV stabilizer packages. It pairs efficiently with chopped-strand mat, woven roving, and filament-winding Direct Roving glass fibers for structural reinforcement.

Production Process involves polycondensation of orthophthalic anhydride with glycols, controlled dilution with styrene, addition of accelerators and curing modifiers, viscosity adjustment, vacuum filtration, and blending for filament-winding compatibility. During GRP pipe manufacturing, resin is impregnated into glass fibers, wound over a mandrel, cured thermally, post-cured for dimensional stability, and then cut to final lengths.
