Methanol
Methanol ,also called methyl alcohol and wood spirit, amongst other names, is an organic chemical and the simplest aliphatic alcohol, with the formula CH3OH .It is a light, volatile, colorless and flammable liquid with a distinctive alcoholic odour similar to that of ethanol .
Methanol has a role as an amphiprotic solvent, a fuel, a human metabolite, an Escherichia coli metabolite, a mouse metabolite and a Mycoplasma genitalium metabolite. Methanol and its derivative products such as ascetic acid and formaldehyde created via chemical reactions are used as base materials in acrylic plastic; synthetic fabrics and fibers . Methanol is an excellent solvent for many organic compounds, making it useful in paints, varnishes, and paint thinners.

Due to its low freezing point, methanol is a key ingredient in antifreeze solutions for vehicles and other applications, and as is used as de-icing for airplane wings and other surfaces .
