Secondary Butyl Alcohol

Secondary Butyl Alcohol is available in different purity grades, typically ranging from industrial grade to high-purity grades above 99%, suitable for sensitive formulations. It is a clear, colorless liquid with a characteristic alcoholic odor, chemical formula C₄H₁₀O, molecular weight around 74.12 g/mol, and a boiling point near 99 °C, making it practical for controlled processing. SBA is extensively used as a solvent for resins, paints, coatings, inks, adhesives, and cleaners, as well as a reaction medium in chemical synthesis. It also serves as an important intermediate for producing methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), esters, plasticizers, and other specialty chemicals. Due to its polarity and solvency balance, Secondary Butyl Alcohol improves flow, leveling, and drying behavior in coatings and printing ink systems. In pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and electronic industries, selected grades are used where consistent purity and low impurity profiles are essential.
