Emulsion styrene-butadiene rubber (E-SBR) is a synthetic rubber produced by copolymerizing styrene and butadiene in an emulsion process where the monomers are dispersed in water with the help of an emulsifying agent .

It’s a widely used general-purpose rubber, known for its good tensile strength, tear resistance, and abrasion resistance. E-SBR is particularly favored in tire manufacturing, but also finds applications in footwear, conveyor belts, and various industrial rubber products. E-SBR exhibits good mechanical properties, making it suitable for applications requiring strength and durability. It has good resistance to wear and abrasion, making it suitable for tires and other applications involving friction.

E-SBR can be extended with oils (like TDAE or HI-AR) to improve processing and reduce cost and it can be easily blended with other rubbers and polymers. A major application is in the production of passenger car and light truck tires, especially for treads. Other applications are Industrial Rubber Products , Footwear , Adhesives , automotive parts, cables, and other rubber goods.
