Magnesium Oxide

Magnesium oxide (MgO), or magnesia, is a white hygroscopic solid mineral that occurs naturally as periclase and is a source of magnesium .

It has an empirical formula of MgO and consists of a lattice of Mg²⁺ ions and O²⁻ ions held together by ionic bonding. The majority of magnesium oxide produced today is from the calcination of naturally occurring minerals. Magnesite, MgCO₃, being the most common.

MgO has many useful properties. It is heat-resistant, chemically stable, and a good electrical insulator. These properties make it valuable in many industries. By far the largest consumer of magnesia worldwide is the refractory industry as a refractors insulator.

Magnesium Oxide is also used extensively as an electrical insulator in tubular construction heating elements as in electric stove and cooktop heating elements. Other industries such as Cement , Fertilizer, Fireproofing, Medical , Waste treatment ,Brake Linings and etc ..
