Unsaturated Polyester Resins for Abrasives
This polyester resin is a high-strength thermosetting binder designed for manufacturing grinding wheels, cutting discs, polishing stones, and industrial abrasive components. The resin provides exceptional heat resistance, strong adhesion to abrasive grain systems, and excellent dimensional stability under rotational force and frictional temperature.
Abrasive Polyester Resin cures into a rigid, impact-resistant matrix capable of withstanding heavy mechanical stress so that it can be sued in cutting wheels, grinding stones, flap discs, polishing blocks, deburring wheels, sharpening stones, sanding blocks, industrial abrasive segments, and surface finishing tools used in metalworking, construction, automotive repair, and machinery maintenance. It is suitable for both cold-cure and hot-press abrasive manufacturing.
Composition generally include orthophthalic or modified unsaturated polyester resin, styrene monomer, MEKP curing agent, cobalt accelerator, heat-resistant fillers, alumina or silicon carbide grain bonding agents, friction-enhancing additives, plasticizers, and low-shrink stabilizers. Additional additives such as graphite, ceramic powder, or zirconia may be integrated for premium abrasive grades.

During abrasive manufacturing, the resin is mixed with abrasive grains, fillers, and friction modifiers, then molded or pressed into shape. The product is cured under controlled temperature and pressure, cooled, machined or trimmed, and finished for final packaging. Abrasive Resins have high binding strength, excellent abrasive grain retention, thermal stability, resistance to cracking, impact toughness, low shrinkage, and predictable curing behavior. This resin supports high-speed wheel performance with consistent cutting efficiency and longer product lifespan. Available formulations include fast-cure, high-hardness, heat-resistant, and low-odor abrasive UPR grades.
