It is an anionic surfactant with CH3(CH2)11(OCH2CH2)nOSO3Na chemical formula that is matchable with both fat and water. SLES is the most common of a group of commercial sodium and ammonium alkyl and alkyl ether sulfates. SLES is synthesized by ethoxylation of dodecyl alcohol, which is manufactured industrially from natural oils like coconut oil. The final ethoxylate is transformed into a half ester of sulfuric acid, which is neutralized by changing it to sodium salt.
